Ceramic lustres are precious metal overglazes in liquid suspension, applied to glazed fired ware and refired at low on-glaze temperatures to create a metallic surface. They are used for decorative pottery, ceramic detail, highlights and refined finishing effects on suitable glazed pieces.

Lustres are not used like standard pottery glazes or underglazes; they are applied after the main glaze firing, then fired again using the correct lustre firing guidance for the product.
