Potentiometer Replacement for Skutt Potters Wheels

Potentiometer Replacement for Skutt Potters Wheels

Stock Code: SW-4056

£26.40
  Description

The potentiometer is located inside the foot pedal assembly. It’s purpose is to communicate the foot pedal motion to the wheel controller to adjust the speed of the wheel head. These are fairly robust components however they can get damaged if they get wet or the cord leading to the foot pedal gets put under abnormal strain.

Instructions:

  1. Unplug the wheel from the outlet.

  2. Remove the bottom cover plate on the foot pedal by removing the 4 screws inside the rubber feet. Pay attention to the location of the slot on the cover plate.

  3. Cut a minimal amount of wire when removing the old potentiometer. Note which wire color fastens to which terminal on the potentiometer.

  4. Loosen the top cap of the wire strain relief on the foot pedal and pull 2” of the black wire inside the foot pedal. Remove 2” of the black outer jacket from the end of the cord inside the foot pedal.

  5. Slip a piece of heat shrink tubing over each wire.

  6. Strip the ends of all three wires and twist them around each lug on the new potentiometer. Black wire on lug by itself, red wire on the middle lug and white wire on the lug closest to the red wire.

  7. Solder the wires in place.

  8. Slip the heat shrink tubing back over the solder joint and heat with a hair dryer or the flame of a match held a few inches away.

  9. Position the potentiometer back in the foot pedal with the black wire closest to the machined slot in the foot pedal casting.

  10. Make sure the end of the tab on the potentiometer is bent 90 degrees so that it will protrude through the slot on the bottom cover plate.

  11. Replace the bottom plate being careful not to over tighten the rubber feet.
