About the International Ceramics Festival

The ICF is Europe’s premier ceramics festival, held at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on the campus of Aberystwyth University on the mid-Wales coast.

Since its inception in 1987, this three-day festival has grown into the UK’s leading ceramics event. It provides teachers, students, ceramic artists, collectors, working potters, amateurs, and craft enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to meet and study the work of distinguished, internationally known potters and ceramicists from Wales, the UK, and around the world.

A Celebration of Ceramics

The Festival attracts over 1,000 visitors who attend lectures, watch live demonstrations, and explore special exhibitions over a long weekend at the end of June or early July.

International demonstrators showcase their skills and techniques on a specially adapted stage while also having their own workspaces—allowing for personal discussions about their work. The focus is both practical and inspirational: kilns are built, pots are created and fired, and visitors get an up-close look at the ceramic process.

Opportunities for Emerging Makers

The Festival actively supports emerging makers and offers unique opportunities for students and recent graduates who work with clay in ceramics, fine art, or 3-D design courses.

If you are a teaching organization and would like to arrange a visit to talk to your students, please contact the festival office.

Get Involved

Visitors can take part in a range of hands-on activities throughout the festival. Attendees can also vote for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award and donate their work to the Cup Sale, an initiative that supports the ceramics community.

The festival is sponsored by Potclays, one of the UK’s leading ceramic suppliers, and is supported by other ceramics-related companies. It also receives financial backing from the Welsh Arts Council and the Welsh Government.

Festival Organizers

The International Ceramics Festival is organized by North Wales Potters, South Wales Potters, and Aberystwyth University.
